What HDPE pipe is used for
In underground utility work, corrugated HDPE is commonly used for storm drainage, culverts, and subsurface drainage. Solid wall HDPE is used when the plans call for a solid-wall pipe, including pressure and non-pressure lines. D&D supplies both corrugated and solid wall HDPE from ADS in the diameters listed above. Where HDPE is used on Houston jobs
On underground utility and site work, HDPE shows up on storm sewers, driveway and roadside culverts, detention outfalls, and subsurface drainage. What a Houston permit allows is narrower than that general list, and it depends on whether the job is in the city or outside it.
The City of Houston 2026 Infrastructure Design Manual, Table 9.3, allows HDPE under specification 02505 for storm sewer in the right-of-way only on local streets. HDPE is not allowed in augering, and multi-barrel HDPE is not allowed. For driveway culverts on open-ditch streets, HDPE is limited to single-family residential culverts.
Read Table 9.3 in the City of Houston 2026 Infrastructure Design Manual and confirm it with your engineer of record before you order. Outside the Houston city limits, Harris County regulations for infrastructure govern. D&D supplies the pipe. D&D does not design the drainage system, and the permitting authority or engineer of record sets the final size and material.
Corrugated vs solid wall HDPE: which do you need?
Corrugated HDPE has a ribbed wall and is typically selected for gravity storm drain, culvert, and subsurface drainage. Solid wall HDPE has a continuous solid wall and is the type specified when the line has to meet a pressure or other solid-wall requirement. D&D supplies both forms from ADS.
